September 20, 2011I’ve never really encountered this illness much less by someone I knew, or someone my own age.
Susie sat in the chair having her hair & makeup done on her wedding day, she looked at me and said “I don’t think I’ve told you, I have breast cancer” Earlier in the summer she’d found out & had a double mastectomy & then reconstructive surgery. She proceeded to make a joke about wanting a shirt she’d seen that said “Yes, they’re fake. My real ones tried to kill me”
That’s exactly the spirit Susie has kept with her breast cancer battle. She delayed her chemo treatments until after the wedding, so that she’d still have her hair at the wedding, and not be so sick. The Tuesday following their wedding she started the treatments. She’s since shaved her head.
While away in Savannah last weekend to attend a wedding, I got an email on my phone from Trinette, a mutual friend of mine & Susies…. and the reason Susie & I met. She explained she had joined a Susan G. Komen team for Susie & they were raising money. I happily donated.
I’d love if my readers would consider donating to this cause. Click here for info on how to contribute. Please remember every little bit helps.
