Maternity | What to wear

Long time, no blog! That’s what happens when you take a vacation, and then try to play catch up! Since my bestie finally announced to the world that her and her hubby are expecting a baby in March I thought it would be fun to give my take on what to wear for maternity photos (because I fully anticipate snapping a few photos of her when I visit in January!) 1/2/3/4 1. This is the one time in your life your gut SHOULD show. So show it! Yes, flowy, breezy dresses are pretty, but they tend to hide your baby bump in photos… don’t shy away from a style that is a little more form fitting around your tummy!  **Seriously, how cute is that polka-dot dress!!!??? 2. Sleeves are your friend. I tell non-pregnant ladies that sleeveless tops and dresses tend to make your arms look less than attractive (unless you have crazy buff arms!) 3. Just like any other time in life… black (dark colors in general) is slimming. I want you to have a defined shape, but sometimes lumps and bumps will show on lighter colors that you don’t want. 4. The same can go for patterns. They disguise those lumps and bumps too. 5. Still struggling with lumps and bumps? Wear maternity Spanx! 6. Another great way to have a more smoothing effect is to wear something like a lycra or polyester blend material. Cotton tends to hang on other fabrics, while slicker materials will glide over well. No one wants their dress hung up on their panties! Below: A simple t-shirt (although white is pictured, here, I’d go for a color) with black leggings/jeans and a giant necklace would look great on anyone…. or for more pattern, go with the v-neck tunic! As always, if you have questions about an outfit, just ask! 1/2/3/4

Baby | Ainsley Wren

I was bad and skipped blogging yesterday, so I’m making up for it today! Hooray! A few weeks ago I put out an invitation to photograph a newborn for free. You see, I have this great little office space but had never considered shooting in it (unless it was a simple headshot). But I got to thinking after the flooring was finished, that it might be viable to photograph the tiny ones in here and I wanted to test it out! Thankfully Shayne (Ainsley’s mom) was willing to make the hike to Davidson from Waxhaw on a freezing cold night with her brand new baby girl. They were so kind to give me their time and a little one to play with. It taught me that I can certainly photograph a baby in my space, and want to continue to pursue it. So… if you’re having a little one in the coming months, contact me for special newborn studio pricing! My whole thought for this shoot was to have a baby girl on my sideboard with a beautiful ribbon backdrop…. well, as you can see I didn’t have enough of a backdrop! Lesson learned for next time 🙂 This was definitely an experiment, and I’m grateful to have learned so much in a short hour!

Portraits | 2011 Review

As promised, I’ve followed yesterday’s 2011 wedding review with our portraits 🙂 I really love doing portrait sessions, they’re so much more relaxed than a wedding day. We get to chit-chat and get to know our clients a bit better. While I really feed off the energy of a wedding day, the slower pace of portrait sessions are so nice! I included our bridals in here, as we consider them a “portrait” session….. I didn’t have bridals done when we got married, but I SO wish I had! It really allows you to try out your hair/makeup/shoes/jewels…. all together with that fabulous dress. ***I’ve been thinking about giving away a bridal session to our next bride we book….. would anyone be interested 😉 ????     Thank you all for making our 2011 extra special!   PS…. did you notice that little one in the bottom left corner??? I haven’t blogged her yet, but she’s the newest addition to the Horton family! Jeremy’s sister had her the week before Christmas, Anna Beth Avery 🙂
