Film | Bronica Test

Last week we made the unfortunate discovery that our new, beloved Bronica did not function as promised 🙁  I had a nagging feeling that something wasn’t right, but ran a roll of film through it anyway. Jeremy dropped it off at Biggs Camera and went he went back to pick it up… it was blank. Cue a really angry Jessica. I had been so over-the-moon excited for this camera that the let-down was that much harder. The guy at Biggs suggested that we bring the camera in so they could see if they could assess the issue. I took it the next day to discover 2 things…. 1. the shutter was getting stuck open or closed and 2. they had one nearly identical for sale… and $50 cheaper. I left with my broken Bronica, and wanting the one they had for sale (which they demonstrated that it worked properly). After getting the broken one sent back, I went back to Biggs to purchase theirs. I was way too excited! We shot a roll that night and next afternoon, and the next morning Jeremy dropped another test roll at Biggs…. this time… there were actually images on the film when we got it back!!! Here are the first 2 frames we shot in our dining room…. our pooches, Gus Gus & Bender 🙂 Bronica ETRS, 75 2.8 lens, Fuji 400H Film Here’s to many more shoots with the Bronica!

Personal | Beach Weekend

A few weeks ago I packed up the VW and headed east with Dana & Kelli for some much needed time away from the Queen City. Before heading home we stopped for lunch at the Surfhouse …. OMG… this is the cutest little surf shop/cafe with the best lunch! You must check it out if you’re down at Carolina Beach. All images taken on my Minolta Maxxum 50 with Fuji 400h pro film.

Personal | Film, Oklahoma

Back in November I packed my bags & headed for Tulsa, Oklahoma. My day job hosts an annual convention each November, and this time the midwest region was the host. The week is normally uneventful, I’m stuck breathing recycled hotel air & eating hotel food. My coworkers & I try and find a car to get us out, this year was no different. We made stops at Braum’s, the River Spirit Casino and a few other local places. I didn’t take many photos, but here’s a few I did.     I few back to NC extremely early, and got to see the sunrise from the air…  Next November we’ll be in Boise, Idaho….. I’m keeping my fingers crossed to see a Boise State game! ** All shot on the Nikon F5 with Portra 400

Personal | Film #2

You may remember back in September/October we purchased & began using some film.  Well, our new Nikon F5 arrived & we couldn’t wait to begin shooting with it! Since receiving it, we shot 5 rolls. Some personal, and some while out with clients. I want to continue to share my journey shooting & learning…. this time on film. We purchased the F5 because it’s a Nikon camera, thus we could continue to use all our pro lenses with it…. unlike our Minolta Maxxum, which we only have 2 lenses for (the kit & a 50 1.7). All of the photos linked above were shot on the Minolta with the 50. This morning I woke to find an email from the FIND lab, where I sent 5 rolls about 2 weeks ago. I was SO excited to have the scan back 🙂  Well…. I have to say I wasn’t as thrilled as I was with the Minolta scans!!! (not because of the scans, but the sharpness) Somehow that little lens managed to be sharper than our Nikons. Strange. Perhaps I should send the F5 off for servicing, and see if that’s the issue. In the mean time we’ll continue to shoot film, explore different stocks, and learn as much as possible! Today I’ll share the few from Catey & Michael’s wedding I shot. (See the digital images here & here).  Expect to see lots more film here 🙂 Enjoy!   *these have had no extra post processing, they are straight from FIND. **They are all Portra 400
