Personal | Gus

We have a room in our home that rarely gets entered. It’s our guest room. Usually we go in looking for something we’ve stashed in the closet or dresser…. or because we can’t find the cat. The one perfectly awesome thing about this room…. it’s all white. White walls and a white duvet on the bed… with a big double window that faces  north west… it gets great light in the evening. With all that white, it’s a great place to shoot little things… like my dog, Gus. I am lucky enough to work full time for nonprofit that hosts contests to it’s members every fall including, art, baking, crafts…. and photography 🙂 There’s an animal/pet category and I knew what I wanted to do…. my Gus Gus in his Sunday best.   Wish us luck this weekend at the contest 🙂

Business | Rebrand!

Do things look a little different around here?? You probably saw the makeshift change we made over the summer to a monogram logo…. now the transition is complete 🙂 I finally bit the bullet and had my site converted from blogger to wordpress! To most of you this will just mean things look “prettier” which is definitely important, but it also provides a lot more benefits, including tons of customization options 🙂 Some other new things to fill you in on…. New packaging 🙂 If you had a shoot or wedding with us over the last few months you’ve already seen it, as we started using these things back in June/July. We also got new business cards (the newest piece to the puzzle!) So here’s what you’re looking at…. Left: Our new cards… they’re blind pressed with our new monogram logo, our website is in pink and edge painted in orange Middle: All the goodies! CD packaging (with the ribbon), our notecards, a business card & 5×7 print packaging (with the gray ribbon) Right: The orange on the edge painted cards!

Personal | Us

A couple of months ago I was looking at my calendar… when I realized we’d booked nothing for Labor Day weekend, I deemed that “us” time. We are about to head into one of the busiest times of 2011, so I knew a little time to ourselves would be needed. I decided that we should go out and “play” …. something we used to do a lot, and something we should do more. Every day I pass the North Harbor in Davidson going to and from my day job, and every day I think, what an awesome spot to shoot. The boats and docks are neatly tucked in a cove of trees, allowing for beautiful light to hit this spot at both sunrise & sunset. This also served as the perfect opportunity to chat about wedding day wardrobe. A lot of photographers (I’d venture to say most) will wear all black to weddings. This is perfectly fine, I have no problem with it. When I shoot with other people they often ask that I wear black and I completely respect that. However, it’s not our policy. My business is a reflection of me, and I rarely wear all black, and if I was a guest attending your wedding I really doubt I’d wear all back either. So, I whip out dresses to shoot in that I’d normally wear. This means Lilly. I LOVE my Lilly dresses, and up until 2 weeks ago I only owned 2 of them, and they were serious splurges. Then Lilly was having a BIG sale and I scooped up 2 more for next summer…. and then I spotted the one I’m wearing on eBay… it’s the strapped version of another one I own. …… and don’t worry, I always wear shorts under my dress while shooting 🙂 Jeremy won’t be rocking jeans though…. he almost always wears his J Crew Ludlow suit with a pink and/or orange tie. The tie he’s wearing here, is actually the one from our wedding 🙂 So if you’re wondering what we’ll be wearing at your wedding…. this should give some insight 🙂 FYI…. I was wearing this lip stain, it’s my new favorite…. but OBVIOUSLY doesn’t show up well in photos…. ladies, this is why I tell you to always wear more makeup than normal…. and if I’d had a spare set of fake lashes, I would have been wearing them too….  (I was also wearing the foundation & blush seen there too… I promise my skin isn’t that great…. but that makeup sure is!) Gotta love a little self timer action 🙂 ….. now off to find the perfect fall/winter wardrobe! I bought these pants, but they are PURPLE! I was really disappointed, and returned them…. have you seen any pink, wool pants??
