Personal | Us

A couple of months ago I was looking at my calendar… when I realized we’d booked nothing for Labor Day weekend, I deemed that “us” time. We are about to head into one of the busiest times of 2011, so I knew a little time to ourselves would be needed. I decided that we should go out and “play” …. something we used to do a lot, and something we should do more. Every day I pass the North Harbor in Davidson going to and from my day job, and every day I think, what an awesome spot to shoot. The boats and docks are neatly tucked in a cove of trees, allowing for beautiful light to hit this spot at both sunrise & sunset. This also served as the perfect opportunity to chat about wedding day wardrobe. A lot of photographers (I’d venture to say most) will wear all black to weddings. This is perfectly fine, I have no problem with it. When I shoot with other people they often ask that I wear black and I completely respect that. However, it’s not our policy. My business is a reflection of me, and I rarely wear all black, and if I was a guest attending your wedding I really doubt I’d wear all back either. So, I whip out dresses to shoot in that I’d normally wear. This means Lilly. I LOVE my Lilly dresses, and up until 2 weeks ago I only owned 2 of them, and they were serious splurges. Then Lilly was having a BIG sale and I scooped up 2 more for next summer…. and then I spotted the one I’m wearing on eBay… it’s the strapped version of another one I own. …… and don’t worry, I always wear shorts under my dress while shooting 🙂 Jeremy won’t be rocking jeans though…. he almost always wears his J Crew Ludlow suit with a pink and/or orange tie. The tie he’s wearing here, is actually the one from our wedding 🙂 So if you’re wondering what we’ll be wearing at your wedding…. this should give some insight 🙂 FYI…. I was wearing this lip stain, it’s my new favorite…. but OBVIOUSLY doesn’t show up well in photos…. ladies, this is why I tell you to always wear more makeup than normal…. and if I’d had a spare set of fake lashes, I would have been wearing them too….  (I was also wearing the foundation & blush seen there too… I promise my skin isn’t that great…. but that makeup sure is!) Gotta love a little self timer action 🙂 ….. now off to find the perfect fall/winter wardrobe! I bought these pants, but they are PURPLE! I was really disappointed, and returned them…. have you seen any pink, wool pants??

Product | RedTree Albums

I’m interrupting Susie & Andrew’s wedding posts to share this…. I have a new album provider!!!! After hearing some raves about RedTree and seeing photos of samples, I knew I needed to give them a try. I am SO glad I did, I think my clients are going to love them as much as I do. They come in 3 cover options, fabric, leather & photo. My sample is in a khaki, linen. So simple, so beautiful, so timeless. The large album is a 10×10 with 15 spreads (30 pages)The small album is a 5×5 replica of the large one. One of my favorite features RedTree offers is name debossing. I had Hunter & Jessica’s name added to center. Want to see more samples and cover options? Visit their website & blog!

Wedding | Susie & Andrew Part I

Jeremy & I had the opportunity to photograph Susie & Andrew’s big day at the Charlotte City Club a few weeks ago, it was awesome! Before I moved to Charlotte, my Dad & I took the Amtrak from Durham to Charlotte. We spent the day walking around uptown, lunching, and bribing the Panthers gift store employees to let us in the stadium 🙂 While walking around, my dad and I were looking for a place to have lunch. He spotted a beautiful white marble lobby, and wanted to ride up to the top for a view of the city. We got to the top & the lovely people at the desk told us that it was a private club for members only. Dad was disappointed he didn’t get to see a view of the city, down we went. Little did I know that just 3.5 years later, I’d be photographing a wedding there, taking in the beautiful city views and eating the club food 🙂 I started my day at the Center City Marriott, where the girls were getting all done up by Kymm & Mandi of Who’s The Fairest in one of the suites. Susie got all of her ladies Kate Spades! Don’t you wish you were a bridesmaid in her wedding!?!? Before we headed over to the City Club, the girls had a quick champagne toast, with festive solo cups. Susie donned beautiful, apple green Kate Spades….. and one very lucky flower girl wore orange Tory Burch flats (safe to say I lusted over both pairs!) After Susie was dressed, a special gift from Andrew was delivered….. Hello David Yurman! While I was busy with Susie…. Jeremy got to hang out with the boys 🙂 The guests were arriving…. and then it was time! Married! ….. stay tuned for part 2!
