Wedding | St. Patrick’s Day
April 3, 2013Wedding | Amy & Danny
April 10, 2013I am a lover of gifting something not on the registry- something more meaningful, something with some thought….. something monogrammed 😉 However, when we were married two gifts we received at one of our bridal showers are some of my favorite and most used… and they aren’t heirloom, monogrammed specialties- they’re practical. With wedding season upon us all, I hope you find this post helpful if you have wedding or shower gifts to purchase!
I would venture to say that 90% of couples move in to an apartment, condo, starter home, etc. when they are starting out. We are no different. I purchased our home about 3 months before we got engaged. I thought it was great, but as most of you know, you quickly learn that layouts and usability of space isn’t always ideal. Enter our kitchen. From the outside it looks nice enough- decent cabinets, open floor plan, etc. but what you don’t see is our lack of storage.
Here she is….
What you may not realize is we have exactly ONE normal drawer. That top one. We have another drawer to the far left, but it’s tiny and is dubbed the “junk drawer”. This is our ONLY spot for utensils. The two “pot drawers below” are somewhat useless…. I mean, they hold stuff- but often things get lost in those because of their depth.
So what are those 2 favorite practical items we received (still over 3.5 years ago)?
1st- a set of nesting bowls. There are NINE bowls in this set that only take up the space of the largest one. They fit in one little space so easily, not taking up valuable cabinet square footage.
2nd- Collapsable measuring cups! I didn’t even know they made these until we received them. The normal kind are great too, they come together and fit inside each other like the nesting bowls- but when you have ONE measly drawer to store them in, they’re always getting overturned and fall away from their nesting position. These babies below, are not attached and lay flat in our drawer, and I’m not forced to wrangle all of them at once since they are not connected. This set actually has 4 cups… but one was in the dishwasher.
I found these exact items online, and they are a fantastic, inexpensive gift!
