Bridal | Black & White

Sometimes in the dead of winter, in the dead of a wedding photographer’s season… you just need to get out and play! The lovely Katelyn modeled this KILLER Tory Burch gown I found (which is for sale if anyone’s interested!), Audry of Paper, Scissors, Beauty did Katelyn’s hair and makeup (yow!!! so pretty!!!) and Jenkins Rose provided the perfect, modern paper goods! These gals were wonderful to work with, and I’d highly recommend them for your day. The flowers cost me about $30 at Fresh Market and I tied them together with a scrap of black and white fabric from Ikea.

Wedding | Lonesome Valley

It’s always a huge priviledge to work with Michelle Lyerly, but getting to shoot with her at Lonesome Valley’s Canyon Kitchen was unreal. Kristin & Andrew’s wedding day was such perfection. The weather, the food, the people and the scenery was to die for. This is one of those venues I could shoot at week after week and never get tired of it!    Someone please take me back to photograph more weddings there!

A New Look…. And A Giveaway!!

Whew…. seems I’ve been dreaming of this day for over a year now. When I initially switched from Blogger to WordPress I had a makeover done to my site and logo (which was much needed!!) but it was time for a refresh and past due for a mobile-friendly site.  This time last year, Michelle Jones left her conventional day-job to pursue a creative career involving web design and I’m so thankful she has been able to assist me with getting this project off the ground and make it a reality! I invite you to click around through the different galleries and see some of my favorite images. I am still getting the galleries updated, some come back often to see what I add! I’ve got so many images to dig off my archives!! Now… to celebrate this new beginning, I’ve got some awesome goodies to giveaway! A gift card to my favorite, local monogram shop, Poppies Gifts. This is where I have everything monogrammed for my business (and friends!). You can take something in and have it stitched or purchase one of their goodies! Next, a pair of Vineyard Vines slippers… not only do I love their stuff (I’m wearing one of their button-down’s today!), but come on… could they be any more perfect for my brand!?! Third… a Lilly Pulitzer starfish cuff… anyone else dreaming of summer days? I have to admit, I’m glad to finally wear a sweater this season, but I give me 2 weeks and I’ll be over it. Forth… A custom monogram from Southern Nest! I love their goodies and have purchased many as gifts and for myself! And finally…. a $250 credit with me!!! This can be used for a portrait session (engagement, bridal or family), as a credit on a wedding package OR you can use it towards a product from your session or wedding we already photographed! Session must be used by April 15, 2016 in the Charlotte area or planned travel destination. If opting to use for a wedding credit, the wedding must take place in 2016. Wedding dates are subject to availability and are booked on a first come, first serve basis. If getting married outside the Charlotte area, a travel fee may apply. If using as a product credit, it must be used by April 15, 2016. Now… if you aren’t local, you can enter on behalf of someone else…. so that means your friends and family can enter for you! There’s a spot on the entry form to designate that.  Click the image below to enter! Good Luck, your chances have to be better than the powerball, right?! Giveaway will close on Sunday evening! Welcome 2016!

As we are nearly 1 week into 2016 I’ve been mulling over what I hope to accomplish this year. Writing the numbers 2016 hasn’t seemed to shock my system the way it normally does… wanting to keep writing 15… instead, I keep seeing things regarding 2017 that keep shocking me. That just seems like 4 years away! I’m at a conference this week, and on the program they already have the “save the date” for next years conference….. in 2017. Anyway… this is irreverent. So here are my goals (in no particular order) and some more of my favorite images from last year…. all shot for Julia Wade at Bald Head Island or Lonesome Valley (all detail, non-identifying images). Continue blogging each Tuesday. I made the commitment back in September to blog each Tuesday and have kept it up! Even through vacations I managed to get it done. I’m proud I stuck to it, and will continue to do so this year. Perhaps I’ll get bold and add Thursday… we’ll see! Learn more about the power of social media…. yes, we all know the logistics of posting, tweeting and instagramming…. but when is the best time, what are the best hashtags? I’m trying to learn more. Shoot an elopement/small wedding in SoCal. My cousin lives in San Diego and we hope to visit her family in mid-late April. So, if you know someone tying the knot out that way, I’d love to be considered to photograph it! I’d probably cut them a bit of a deal… and their would be no travel fees! Continue to shoot more film. I looooove film (all the images in this post are film)…. I think my clients are starting to realize this and aren’t so shocked when I whip out a funky-looking camera. Try out different film cameras and learn more about “pushing” film. Sort and organize files… Over the years I’ve worked between 3 different computers, and while my 2015 files are in good shape… the ones prior are scattered! My poor desktop is horribly outdated, so it’s going to take a small army to clear it off, organize all the backed up files and update it. YIKES. Attend more industry events and get to know more people in the Charlotte area (in an out of the wedding industry). I love to go out and have a good time, but I am an introvert at heart… which keeps me home on the sofa a lot. While my schedule seems hectic sometimes, it’s not always filled with productive things. My schedule should only be filled with meaningful engagements! Spend more time at the beach. 2015 was a busy year, but it kept us away from the beach a lot…. we missed out on lots of perfect fall weekends because we were tied up doing other things. Which might make #9 hard….. maybe if I could just book Wrightsville Beach, Figure 8 Island, Wilmington, Southport, and Bald Head Island weddings…. we could kill 2 birds with one stone! I’ve shot some weddings here and would looooooove more! (NO TRAVEL FEES!) This is not new news… but I would love to book 8 more weddings for 2016… taking us to 10. This will greatly help our adoption dreams come true!!   So… CHEERS 2016! I cannot wait to see what all you have in store for us!
