SELLING OUR HOUSE!!

We knew last fall we would be listing our home for sale this spring, and after some slow-going getting a few projects complete…. it’s finally ready for a new owner! We’ve thoroughly enjoyed living on Rose Glenn Lane in the Summers Walk neighborhood, we have wonderful neighbors and love all the amenities (the pool is awesome and never crowded!). I bought the house in 2008, when much of the neighborhood wasn’t complete, but little by little we’ve watched homes go up and new families move in. The neighborhood is divided into 2 sections, front & back… the last of the town-homes were built last year in the front half, and we’ve relished in the disappearance of the hammer noise 🙂 Our favorite holiday has always been Halloween in the neighborhood. Sitting on the porch, have cocktails, admiring costumes and ordering Chinese food for dinner…. this is the kind of community we have really enjoyed! I can say with confidence you’ll love the street and neighborhood as a whole. The convenience to I77 & I85 is perfect too, and the abundance of Targets and Harris Teeters (and ABC store, our dentist & gym!) makes for easy shopping! Oh, and theirs a functioning farm (Bradford) across the street where you can purchase veggies, jams, jellies and seafood (and your tree at Christmas)! We will be listing it on Monday, but have a showing on Saturday…. if anyone else is interested please have them contact me at info@jjhortonphotography.com and I’ll be glad to show it to anyone else tomorrow! $149,000

Wedding | Ritchie Hill

A little over a month ago Jeremy and I attended the grand opening of Ritchie Hill , a historic home in downtown Concord turned event venue. I’d been in contact with Jessica Eudy about shooting there and after seeing the space that day I couldn’t wait to come back with some folks to photograph! Michelle and Austin were the perfect models that day! We had such fun playing dress-up and shooting in lots of the nooks and crannies of the home. A huge thanks to Ritchie Hill for letting me shoot there (on possibly the rainiest day of the year!), Brackish Bowties for sending me their Bobwhite to photograph on Austin, Shine Invitations for the lovely paper suite, and Chelish Moore for providing an incredibly perfect bouquet to go with our golden-glam theme! Dress: Vintage from eBay (it’s for sale!)       Shoes: Kate Spade      Suit: Austin’s own Images are a mix of 35mm & medium format 120…. shot on Portra 400, Portra 800 & Fuji Natura 1600 Below is a print I made…. it’s the one piece of marriage advice that has stuck with Jeremy and I from preacher at our counseling session before we got married…. “Life is a series of adjustments, and how you handle them will make or break you”

The Bucket List

Every wedding photographer has one. It’s that list of elusive places we would love to photograph a wedding….  It might be an actual wedding venue, and it might not. I’ve had a mental list since I started photographing weddings in 2010, some of which I’ve been able to joyfully check off, clicking my heels as I went. But as I gain more and more experience in this field, and my tastes change, so does my bucket list. Today I’m sharing some of those spots that seem elusive to me. If you are looking to tie the knot at one of these locations, email me… I’ll very likely offer up a sweet deal 😉

Film | Jamaica

When I as prepping for Alan & Ashley’s wedding in Jamaica, I knew I wanted to shoot a little film. So I packed 3 rolls of Kodak Portra 800 in my camera bag… but as weddings are (even the relaxed, destination type) time gets away from me, and my focus can get cloudy…. so I forget about the film and snapped along on my D700. After our 3 days in Montego bay I hadn’t even finished the first roll in my camera! I took all of THREE photos during the wedding….  Ashley’s shoes and one of their cocktail setup (after it was over)… #wompwomp so Jeremy and I walked the property one last time before catching our shuttle to the airport to finish up that roll. I got the scans back a few weeks ago… and we were both smacking ourselves…. WHY DID WE NOT SHOOT MORE FILM?!?!?! Ugh. it was a little heartbreaking to see these perfectly lush photos that feel like you could reach into them and touch the water and smell the flowers. I vow that I WILL slow down and shoot a little more film! Camera: Zenza Bronica ETRS      Film: Kodak Portra 800 (120)      Lab: The FIND Lab
